Road Construction

Road construction is scheduled on the Shippensburg Township portion of Britton Road. Work should last about two weeks starting the week of October 5th to October 15th, and will include a complete base reconstruction and overlay of the road by Valley Quarries.

The work area extends north from the Borough of Shippensburg line (100 yards from North Queen Street), for about one mile to the Southampton Township line (approximately 300 yards south of Smithdale Road.)

Projected Detours:

  • Britton Road will experience delays, including complete road closure on some days, with detours in effect.
    • Britton Road closure will be possible some days 300 yards from Smithdale Road, with Britton Road's southbound traffic from Southampton Township detoured on Smithdale Road to PA-533, then to US-11.
    • Britton Road will also be closed at the Burd Run bridge. All non-local traffic between North Queen Street and the Burd Run bridge will be detoured to North Queen Street, to Richard Avenue, then to Prince Street.
    • Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Britton Road from North Queen Street to the Burd Run bridge. Residents in that area should expect delays.
  • Fogelsonger Road will also be closed from Britton Road to 50 yards east of SU's rear entrance. All local Fogelsonger Road traffic will be detoured to to PA-696.

Construction should last about two weeks. Please endure this temporary inconvenience while we work toward a permanent improvement.

Park Access:

Shippensburg Township Park will remain open as usual during Britton Road construction, though park access will be blocked or limited some days at the Hornbaker Drive and Mowery Drive entrances. Access by the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail will not be affected.
